I’ve read in another forum (The BBC one I think) that there may a problem coming up with the 1911 Census.
Yes I know its 5 years away from being available but the point is still worth thinking about.
Apparently the 1911 Census was conducted at the height of the Suffrage Movement and a lot of women went AWOL for the night of enumeration. ie. stayed out overnight at marches and demo’s so that they wouldn’t be counted. Some commentators have mentioned a figure of tens of thousands did this.
Was this form of demonstration against the Government taken up in Scotland. I have no doubt demo’s and marches were well attended, does anyone know if this was a major protest technique up here.
Like I said its not like its not going to give us a problem in the immediate future, just something to consider. We can probably rule DWW out as providing first hand evidence but he will have an answer no doubt.
