1901 Census .....

Post by jennovo » Fri Mar 10, 2006 12:06 pm

Hi all,
Does anyone have acess to the 1901 census that does not cost them. I have been madly downloading from SP and keep getting the wrong person whilst looking for James Overend. I have tried overn, nerend and any number of combinations using *. I finally looked at the James Overend in Edinburgh but it is not the James I am looking for. I now have a James Devene in Blythswood aged 34 but don't want to use another 5 credits on the wrong family.
James Campbell Overend born Jan 1864 married Elizabeth Dodds Hampton born........ Well that was interesting!!!! I thought I would provide some additional information by looking at the registration for the birth of Elizabeth. On Elizabeth's marriage registration it gives her father as Thomas Hampton house painter mother Jane ms. Livingstone but on her birth registration it gives the same details re her father but mother as Helen ms. Mark. On the marriage in 1893 Elizabeth gives her age as 26 which would mean her birth should be abt. 1867 but her birth date is registered as August 1865. Same person?? It's like a good mystery novel!
Thank you for any help,
Jen :-s

I now have the family in the 1881 census it gives Thomas' wife as Ann - boy was he going through some wives! - or is there another explanation?

It looks like Elizabeth's mother was Helen Mark who died in 1866. Thomas married Ann Livingstone in 1867.

ELISABETH DODDS HAMPTON
Event(s):
Birth: 11 AUG 1865 Hutchesontown, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland

Parents:
Father: THOMAS HAMPTON
Mother: HELEN MARK

THOMAS HAMPTON

Marriages:
Spouse: HELEN MARK
Marriage: 03 JUN 1864 Eddlestone, Peebles, Scotland

THOMAS HAMPTON

Marriages:
Spouse: ANN LIVINGSTON
Marriage: 22 NOV 1867 Cambusnethan, Lanark, Scotland

You would have to look at both marriage entries to confirm it's the same Thomas.

Annette M

Thank you so much Annette. Yes, Thomas was married twice. Elizabeth was born to the first marriage.
