Another Question .....

Post by Wee Ina » Mon Mar 20, 2006 1:33 pm

Morning Everyone.

I went to SP and got a page - Was looking for a William McKay and its possible i have found him BUT,,,,,, and here we go

William is the first person on the page but hes 8 yrs old, now i doubt he could have rented the house himself so where would i find his parents?
Would they have been on the page before ?

This isnt the first time I have found this either the other week i found a 10 month child home alone ?

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm most odd I would have thought that the whole family would have been on the same page.

Thanks

Wee Ina

Hi Ina,

Unfortunately it looks like you'll have to view the previous page (another 5 credits). It's not so bad if it's the right family but when this happened with one of 'my' families it wasn't until I viewed the previous page that I realised it wasn't who I was looking for.

Regards,

Alison

hi Wee Ina
Does it state on the census page that he is the Head of the Household (usually denoted by a letter H or Head after his name)? He may be. I've certainly found a child who was stated as "Head".

If he's not head of his household, but is down as "son" or similar my guess would be the rest of his folks are on the preceeding page. If you go back to your previous searches or viewed images pages on SP you should, from the page you have already paid for, be able to see a button which will allow you (for further payment of course!) to see the page before.

Best wishes
Lesley

Researching:
Midlothian & Fife - Goalen, Lawrie, Ewart, Nimmo, Jamieson, Dick, Ballingall.
Dunbartonshire- Mcnicol, Davy, Guy, McCunn, McKenzie.
Ayrshire- Lyon, Parker, Mitchell, Fraser.
Easter Ross- McCulloch, Smith, Ross, Duff, Rose.

Requiring an additional payment where a family is spread across two pages is unbelievably cheap. One should always be allowed to look at the page before and after at no charge.

Hi Ina

One good thing about looking at the page before, or the page after, to find the rest of one family, is the fact that you may find another family on the same page.

This has happened to me twice. I once found the Head and Wife and 2 kids on one page. I knew there were more children. They were on the next page. But next door and next door again were 2 more of my families!

This is more likely to happen in a small rural place than a town or city.

Jean

Thanks everyone,

I wasnt moaning about it esp after that great Leslie/Porter Tip i got on here the other day - i found at least 10 others because of that, no i was really looking for directions and as he is listed as son i will now go and look at the page before.

Thanks very much to all of you - I wish there was an English site like this and SP as searching for anyone is stupid down south.
