New User Rox family.....

Post by george67 » Mon Mar 20, 2006 10:10 pm

I am a new user and am trying to find out if anybody has posted any messages regarding the Rox family. I have been able to find information on the marriage of John Rox and Anne Jack in 1868. I notice that the spelling occasionly changes to Rocks. I would be very thankful if anybody could help me with these two problems. Thanks again, George

Hullo George

May I give you a warm welcome to TalkingScot. Do hope you will find the site helpful in your research.

I have no recollection of anybody posting about the name ROX or ROCKS. Perhaps someone else has.

One of the things we've all learned over the years is that names can have an interesting and frustrating collection of spellings, all linked to pronunciation or how the writer thought the name should be spelled. It certainly doesn't facilitate research!

Regards
Catriona

Have you looked for this marriage on the Scotlands People site (link above) yet? The marriage entry should give you quite a bit of information, but you may have it already.

Hi CatrionaL, Tracey, and LeslieB, I am overwhelmed by the quick response. It looks like the end of the line as far as tracing back this Rox family in Scotland, and I will start digging in Ireland. This John Rox was my great grand father. I still have lots of researching to do in Scotland regarding my grandmother (Lizzie McCallum), great grandmother (Anne Jack). If I can help anybody doing any researching in this part of Canada, please let me know.

Don't forget the ROCK version of the surname.

There are still several families of that name living in and around the Glasgow area.
