Scotland's 1881 census .....

Post by dmd1164 » Sun Mar 26, 2006 6:14 am

OK it's official I'm confused. Is this particular census available anywhere other than Scotland's People?

The LDS and Freecen (not 1881) site appears to only have the British census for that year is this correct?

Donna
Looking for Dickson, Reid, McGill lines in Scotland. Ord and Potter lines in England.

Hi Donna

Yup you're correct as far as online access goes. Only place is via pay per view on Scotland's People. However  .....not sure what the going price is downunder but in the US and the UK you can purchase the complete 1881 census for England and Scotland as a CD set from the LDS folks for a very affordable price. This is usually the better buy especially if you expect to be doing considerable lookups in that particular year.

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Donna

You can purchase the CD set of the 1881 British census, including Scotland, for £29.95 from:

LDS Distribution Centre, 399 Garrets Lane, Birmingham, B33 0UH.

Phone: 0121 785 2200
Fax: 0121 789 7686

Very speedy service - had mine within 48 hours of phone call.

And have found them worth their weight in gold.

Kind Regards

Ellen.

PS - it is the British census in the proper sense of the word (ie: including Scotland! Most genealogy magazines and suppliers seem to think that Britain stops between Carlisle and Gretna)
Researching: Grant; MacIntosh; Wright; Parley; Souter; Jaffray; Sangster; all North East & Speyside and Sutherland, Glasgow then Sutherland County; Buchanan, Stirlingshire; Lamond, North East; Stronach, Morayshire to name but a few!
