Hi Billy

Well, that's just it, prior to the 1891 census (and afterwards) there is no mention. She just seems to pop up at that time then disappear.

Cheers

Bob.

Hi BillyF
I see you are searching McIlory. I am a McIlroy and have managed to trace GG Grandparents with some held from others who were married in Anderson Glasgow 04/02/1860. They were called Peter McIlroy and Catherine Sherry. They had quite a few children. Any relation? I have their parents names but unable to trace any further back.

Hello Bob,

could mother-in-law actually be his wife's, i.e. her first husband's mother? The death of 70-year old Margaret Kelly in 1899 at 24 Rosemount Street looks interesting, but the informant was her son James Kelly.

John

Hi Sporran

I've looked at that 1899 entry for Margaret Kelly of Rosemount St many times, thinking along the same lines as yourself. But the link just isn't there is it? Thanks for looking.

Hello Bob,

what do you know about Mary Jane's first marriage? She does not appear to have brought any children to her marriage to William Wilson, so perhaps it was short.

Sporran,

That's another area that I've never been able to crack.

On her death certificate, her first husband is given as George Butler, a Polce Sergeant. I've tried to track down a Sergeant Butler through Irish Police and Scottish records ie. Mitchell library - but no luck. Mary Janes' M/S is given as McKinney or McKenzie depending on the record looked at.

Hi Lesley , I have come across your Peter and Catherine Sherry a few times and thought there could be a link but have never been able to do so, maybe cousins who are the parents of Peter and when born etc. My McIlroy's where all in the Anderston area , my mum is called after her granny Elizabeth McIlroy she is Elizabeth McIlroy Bennett. But I will look for anything I came across relating to peter ok. thanks

Bob

Only a suggestion. Have you tried the Transport Police? They are pretty much seperate from local and regional Police forces.

mesklin,

No I haven't thought of that. Were the TP around at that time? Any idea where records would be held?

Thanks

Bob.
