Hello Everyone: I'm looking for info on a Samuel Wilson DOB July 1866 his birthplace is Ireland and Tribal is Irish he immigrated to Canada in 1885 he married Annie White August 25, 1891 in Toronto.
Annie White DOB April or September 1872 (didn't confirm month yet) her birth place is Scotland and Tribal is Scotch she immigrated to Canada in 1895.
I'm trying to find their parents or even siblings they had 3 son's William Wallace (my great grandfather), John Harold and George so it is possible that one of their son's was named after the father of either Annie or Samuel. Any info would be helpful.
Many Thanks
Donna

Hi Donna
I don’t think I can help you with Samuel , but hopefully someone else can - I will try for Annie .
The official site for births, marriages , deaths and censuses for Scotland is http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk. However the IGI at www.familysearch.org is a useful and free way to search up till 1875 .
According to the IGI there were 21 births of an Ann(i)(e) White in 1872.
I took a look at the 1901 census for Canada at www.automatedgenealogy.com – if I found the right Annie and George ( with sons William And John H) , Annie’s birth date was 24th April 1872 . Amongst the IGI entrie, there is one exact match for that date :
ANNIE WHITE
Birth: 24 APR 1872 Leith, Midlothian, Scotland
Parents:
Father: GEORGE WHITE
Mother: MAGGIE WILSON
other children born to this couple :
WILLIAM WHITE - International Genealogical Index
Gender: Male Birth: 20 JUL 1873 Leith, Midlothian, Scotland
The couple married 09 JUN 1871 North Leith, Midlothian, Scotland
Now on the above mentioned 1901 census entry, there was a boarder William White dob 20th July 1873 - so this family looks promising.
Now trying it the other way:
The only Ann(i)(e) White I can see of the right age in Ontario in the 1881 Census at www.familysearch.org is in the following:
Household:
Name Marital Status Gender Ethnic Origin Age Birthplace Occupation Religion
George WHITE M Male Scottish 36 Scotland Gardeners Laborer Presbyterian
Margaret WHITE M Female English 33 England --- Presbyterian
Anne WHITE Female Scottish 9 Scotland Scholar Presbyterian
William WHITE Male Scottish 8 Scotland Scholar Presbyterian
Robert WHITE Male Scottish 6 USA Scholar Presbyterian
Harriet WHITE Female Scottish 4 Ontario --- Presbyterian
Agnes WHITE Female Scottish 3 Ontario --- Presbyterian
George WHITE Male Scottish 2 Ontario --- Presbyterian
Ellen WHITE Female Scottish <1 Born: Mar; 2/12 Ontario --- Presbyterian
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Source Information:
Census Place York East, York East, Ontario
Family History Library Film 1375884
NA Film Number C-13248
District 135
Sub-district B
Division 4
Page Number 94
Household Number 468
And as luck might have it – this seems to match the above family in Leith – looks like they may have gone to Canada via the US – you might find some record at eg www.castlegarden.org ?
If on review you agree that this is your Annie, you can look up the actual marriage registration of George White and Maggie Wilson on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk and this should provide you with their parents names.
I hope this is of some use .
Sally

White/Wilson
Thank you Sally for all your hard work. This info could fit the info I gave with info I thought might be correct. This is a lot to work with. So Annie married a Wilson and her mother's name was Wilson that adds to my confusion ha-ha. My Grandmother was a Wilson and she married a Borden and all the Borden's married Wilson so now I have a bigger puzzel on my hand. God help me lol. Thanks again for all your help Sally.

Hi Sally:
I just want to write and thank you again this is the correct info. I just went to the archives and found the Marriage reg for Samuel and Annie and confirmed that her parents are George and Maggie it doesn't show Maggie's maiden name but I'm sure that this is the correct one. Thank you again for your help this is a break for me since I havn't been able to find any info out about Annie. I was also able to find out who Samuel's parents are and he was born in Ireland not Scotland so that could be why I never found him on the Scotish census. Donna

Reallu glad to hear it's coming together. All the info I looked up was 100% free, so no need to thank me. Hope you are hugely successful with your Scottish research and your Irish too.
