1821 Census - Angus .....

Post by fmackay » Sat Apr 01, 2006 7:59 pm

Hi there
Wondered if anyone knew if the census 1821 for Angus were available or if someone has access to them?
I realise that there is a limited amount of 1821 census available so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Looking for Christopher Jobson and his wife Elizabeth, both born in England and possibly a daughter Elizabeth born c1819 in England.
Thanks
Fiona

Hello Fiona

It is my understanding that the countrywide 1821 census was strictly statistical in nature. This is a cut and paste from a google search...

1821 SCOTLAND CENSUS 27th May 1821
Statistical Census only
Some actual Census for ORKNEY, AYR + MID LOTHIAN exist and are published

It looks like you're out of luck hoping for something from Angus.

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Jean and Fiona

Just for completeness , there is also a published 1821 for Lesmahagow.
It gives name of dwelling, name of head , name of spouse and number of males and number of females in house.

Jean - do you know which parishes in Midlothian are available ? :?:

Hi Sally

I'm afraid I was only cutting and pasting something from Google. A further search reveals the following for Dalkeith......

Midlothian - 1811 census, 1821 census and 1831 Communion Roll - Dalkeith

I notice that Ayrshire also comes up with a couple...

Ayrshire - 1821 Census - Galston

Ayrshire - 1821 Census - St. Quivox

None of which will help me a bit :(

Best wishes
Jean
