Hi all,
I found an 1851 census entry for Hugh Mooney, aged 35 found at SP with no image.
1851 MOONEY HUGH M 35 GLASGOW GLASGOW CITY/LANARK 644/01 118/01 009
Is someone able to provide me with any details of other members of this household?
Thanks in advance,
Nina

Re: Hugh Mooney 1851 census
Hi Nina,
I don't know if both censuses are of the same Hugh Mooney...
but the 1861 (which you probably have) does look like "your" Hugh & Agnes McCALLION.

I'm pretty certain it said widower for this Hugh in 1851 (a thick black vertical line obscured part - but it did look like 'wdwr.')
Nancy 11yrs on the 1851 index i looked at was as Mary - but it is Nancy. So is she a daur from a previous marriage?

Thanks very much Jack!
I am not sure if Hugh had married previously, as his death registration in 1893 only mentions that he is the widower of Agnes McCallion. Still it is possible, given the age difference between him and Agnes, although there is no sign of young Nancy with the family in 1861. She may have married as there are two Agnes Mooneys on SP married between 1855 and 1861, but even though I know her father might be Hugh, I don't know a possible mother's name....so HER father HUGH could or could not be MY Hugh. Hard to prove!
In any case, Hugh seems to have been in Ireland in 1858 to marry Agnes McCallion, as I found that they married in Rasharkin, Co. Antrim, as noted on two of their children's birth registrations. Whether he was in Scotland, then went back to Ireland to remarry, or never got to Scotland until 1859 in time for daughter Catherine's birth, is unknown.
The 1861 is indeed my Mooney family, so thank you very much for that.
Nina
