Hello Everyone
I have just discovered that if you go in to ancerty's recent added databases you will find the 1841 census online and searchable but I think there may be spme prblems with it.

Are you sure about Ancestry's 1841 census including Scotland? My understanding is that the Scottish censuses remain within GROS's control, and hence do not appear on the various websites where some of the English and Welsh censuses can be found, often listed as UK, with the "not including Scotland" being lost in the small print.
All the best,

I didn't say it included Scotland I presumed that people would know it was England and Wales and it is the UK version.
Heather
I know you didn't but not everyone is aware of the full situation.
The unfortunate reality in this case as in many other areas of daily life is that many statements are made in relation to the UK (The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) without it being made clear that the statement refers only to England and Wales. ["Great Britain" = the Kingdoms of Scotland and England, and the Principality of Wales, - Scotland taking precedence in this listing as it was the Scottish King James VI who "took over" the English throne
I'm actually impressed just recently by the increasing number of occasions when BBC News, TV and Radio, are adding this qualifier where required to news items, which may well be due to a course that all London BBC Newsroom staff were sent on recently to get them to understand the differences and resultant frustration of a significant proportion of their viewers/listeners, based in Scotland and N Ireland. I know of few things more frustrating to hear that good sense (in my opinion
For the above reason many statements are made by various English authorities, organisations, Ancestry and the like with reference to, for example, the "1841 Census" without it being made fully clear that this should read "1841 Census for England, Wales and the IoM" (do the Channel Islands get a look in
Such is one the burdens of being a Scot

Re: Ancestry and 1841 census
Hello all,
firstly, I would like to soothe some feelings. Andrew replied to Heather's (angel) posting whereas Rachel thought that her sanity was being queried. Time to make up with one another.
I was using Ancestry when the 1851 census was introduced(quietly), and I noticed that some Scottish results appeared in my searches. I am fairly sure that images were available, but the coverage was sparse. By the time that Ancestry launched 1851 with a fanfare, only England and Wales was covered.
I suspect that the same has happened with 1841 (I do not now have access to Ancestry censuses), and Ancestry will realise that they are breaching an agreement or SP will have a word or two with them.
Regards,
John

Hello John
While we are on this subject, i noticed that ancestry.com offer this package...............
The World Deluxe Membership also includes:
International Records
- UK Records, including:
- England Census
- Scotland Census
- Wales Census
- and more…
- Canadian Records
- All other World Collections as they become available
- and more…
Is this so now ? like you i no longer have a subscription so cant see for myself but i suspect not as all us SP users would sign up immediately as it would be far cheaper than the SP fee so, how can they get away with this ?

See Sporran's reply.
I can only imagine that Ancestry have somehow gained access to some limited Scottish census records via sources not necessarily under the direct control of GROS.

I just called Ancestry and spoke to a very nice man called Thomas who confirmed they do not have any Scottish census records
and that it shouldnt be mentioned as part of the package and is going to see about getting it removed
