Hi all,
I wonder if someone can have a look at the 1881 census and see if the McIver family at 38 Gallowgate Glasgow has a one month old baby James, or is it John? At SP, he is listed as John, but I have had some information passed to me about this family, with no John born 1881, but a James born March 1881.
I am guessing it is either a mistranscription or the family changed their mind on the baby's name....or even that there were twins but one wasn't with the family at the time of the census for some reason (though this doesn't seem plausible looking at the 1881 births for male McIvers). I know James existed incidentally.
Thanks for reading,
Nina

Thanks Tracey...hmmm, now that is interesting. I wonder if there is a little lost James McIver one month old anywhere else in Glasgow? I will need to check that.

Thanks Tracey,
It was very nice of you to look, but I now think John should be James and that it was an error of some sort. I have James' birth registration now, and he was born at Blackfriars. No other baby boy McIver was born there that year, so there must only be one child, not twins or anything. I don't believe they changed his name either, unless it was only for a little bit, but he certainly grew up and married as James.
