Rutherford .....
I have just been looking for the 1841 and 1851 census records for the Rutherford family. I found a record in 1841 but it says that there is no image:
1841 RUTHERFORD JOHN M 2 AIRTH /STIRLING 469/00 007/00 003 No Image
I know he married in 1857 at the age of 19 to an Agnes Penn and it does say his father (Andrew) is still alive and is a blacksmith.
When I looked on the 1851 census I couldnt find them in the area of Airth or even Stirlingshire.
Can anyone offer any assistance in finding them in these two census?

Hi Andy
You know the parents names from John's MC so from a parent search on the IGI you can pick up 3 children to them including John. A look in 1841 Airth for all RUTHERFORD's turn up your family with "no image" like you pointed out. You can tell they are yours by the GROS number being the same and the IGI births line up with family members. A search on John's brother Daniel in 1851 shows him with his mother in Larbert but no other family members. A wider search in 1851 for any RUTHERFORD shows your John with one sister in Airth but unfortunately again they are "no image". Andrew is not found anywhere. He may have been missed....he may have been dead (even though his wife still lists herself as married).
Best wishes
Jean

Hi again
I'm not certain why the image would be missing from 1841. It must have been legible enough to have been indexed!! As for 1851 it is most likely due to the poor quality of the digitized image. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to send a contact form to SP and ask if a legible photocopy could be provided. They can only say no
I too looked for DC's for Andrew and Mary and found nothing. They just might have both died before 1855.
Best wishes

Hi, Thanks again. I did send a contact form about the 1841 census ones.
I think I have narrowed down the death of andrew to 1861 - 1875. There are seven. I managed to get these by looking for Andrew's son and daughters death certs and he was alive on Janets (1862) and dead on Daniel's (1875). I can also tell you that Andrew was a blacksmith and as I said earlier married to Mary Wright.

Hi Andy,
Yes, definitely the same one. Agnes married John Rutherford in 1857. I don't know too much about the family but there are a number of births on the LDS site. Penn wasn't a common name in Stirlingshire and most are related.
Regards,
