delmarco,

Do you know anything more about this Rooney family? I have a Margaret Rooney born about 1829 in Ireland, father Owen, mother Mary McGowan according to her death registration.

Well, I'm an hour earlier than you eastern time folks, so I noticed that there is a final Rooney/Roony: Thomas age 30, Tailor, born in Ireland at the end of the list after Catherine. :D

Also, I'm not convinced by Anne. It looks nothing like the Ann higher up on the page. The initial letter looks just like the 'O' in Owen (that is, like a 'B' -- but the real B's are different). It looks like O?er... not much of a name. Sorry, no brilliant ideas on that one, except that it's not Anne 8)

Now I think my brain is about ready to shut down for the night. We'll see what the people on the other side of the Atlantic decide while we sleep :D

Hi folks,
Just for interest....
The 1841 Cd index has the 6yr old girl as OVER.
And the 1851 Cd index has her as 15yr old AMAY.

Hi Ninatoo

Im just scratching the surface of the Rooney line, I have a Bridget Rooney, born @1813 to Owen Rooney and Mary Rooney, nee Kilmartin.

Bridget Married Patrick Mitchell, there starts my Mitchell Line.

I'll pass on any info I find....

I don't think it's Ann, either. I had written down 'Ever' based on the initial letter being rather different from the 'O' in Owen (to my eye, anyway). Would 'Over' (or Ever) be a name? A female form of Owen?

I did notice the Thomas Rooney at the bottom of the list, but there is possibly another Rooney on the following page - Janet Rooney, 50, Servant.

Frances
John Kelly (b 22 Sep 1897) eldest child of John Kelly & Christina Lipsett Kelly of Glasgow

I felt sorry for the Glasgow enumerator trying to record the broad Irish accents.
He was obviously getting tired as his writing deteriorates across both pages.
Comparing initial letters is not very profitable as there are considerable variations but I decided on 'O' and concluded that Over was as good a guess as any. I think this one will have to remain forever speculation.
I thought, unlike Frances, that the name on the second page was Burney and was just pleased to find John McGee -a whip maker, to keep this lot in order.
This is the first time I have seen our combined resources/guesstimates stumped. :( :?
