Hello Eliza

It does look a bit like Malcolm but I suspect it's really William. You'll find a William Howie Cairns in 1890 and also find wee Grace right where predicted in 1896.....

Hello Eliza - there is a Mary Ellen Cairns born in the last quarter of 1885 in Liverpool - was that your Grandma's middle name? If you think it might be her I can give you the reference details to send away for the birth certificate, but there are no details of parents on line.

Best wishes

Hi Eliza

I was only referring to their Birth registrations...but they both are definitely "yours". Don't know what became of either of them after the 1901 census. If you purchase these birth certificates on SP then you'll be able to confirm who the parents were and the date and place of their marriage.

Best wishes
