I know this is a long chance question but my g g grandfather William VESSEY Born 1847 Horncastle Lincolshire last siited on the England 1891 Census Kent with his wife and family On the 1901 Census, Kent wife Eliza is still at same address with family With(M) on Census not (W) widow. I have found no death of William between 1891 & 1901 Census.
I know William had family in Scotland and on an off chance I wondered it he was in Scotland On Census Day 1901
I would appreciate a Lookup of 1901 Census Scotland to see if he appears
It would be wonderful if he did.
Year and years of research it has taken me so far in looking for him and I am runing out of options
I did find on his daughters marriage certificate 1927 he was deceased.
His wife Eliza died age 1992 Years later same address in Kent
Any Ideas much appreciated.

Hi Dianne
Have you tried a search for him on Scotlands People to see if there are any likely candidiates? You can use the search facility on that site for free - you only need to pay if you want to see the results, but with an unusual name it it possible to find out if there are any likely suspects just by using the search! (link at top of page)
Just remember to use a few wildcards to cover speeling varitions e.g. Ves*ey - to cover one or two "s" or "e" in the middle , Vess* to cover possible "ie" endings.
Best wishes
Lesley

Vessey
Hi Diane and Lesleyb,
On the 1901 census there were 2 results for W Vessey, male (with the soundex on) in all of Scotland between the ages of 50-60 (he would have been 54).
What district/county/town do you think he might have been in Diane?

Be wary of Soundex though - sometimes the spectrum of names it covers is too wide to get a meaningful result. It can be a bit unpredictable.
I'm not a big fan of Soundex...as you may have guessed!
Soundex Code for Vessey = V200
Other surnames sharing this Soundex Code:
VAISEY | VASKO | VASS | VAUSE | VAUX | VEACH | VEASEY | VEAZEY | VEECH | VESEY | VESSEY | VICE | VICK | VICKI | VIEHWEG | VOICE | VOOS | VOS | VOSE |
http://resources.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/soundexconverter
My guess (& its only a guess...) would be that the most likley surname which might be giving a result in this group would be Vass - there are loads of them up in Easter Ross, many of whom will have moved south by 1901 I would guess.
Best wishes

Thank you Lesley & Mellissa Thank you both for all the tips you have given me.
The funny thing is that with my family VESSEY Tree I have gone in back in a direct line to 1732 and yet I cannot find the death of My great Grandfather William which you would have thought was easier.
Makes it difficult after the 1901 Census .
My William had son whose wife Ethel Vessey lived & died in Balloch Dunbartonshire,
I just thought he may have been visiting them seeing I can not find his death in England\
I am afraid this is all I can come up with
I will go to Scotlands People and see if I can find William on there
THank you both and very much appreciated in your interest.

Hi Lesley
On the 1881 & 1891 Census ,William was a plumber
Eliza Vessey (Nee Belcher was born 19th December 1847 - that would make her appx. 53/54 same as William
I have been trying to get on to Scotlands People Put my USERNAME and PASSWORD Keeps coming up that they dont match.
I have e-mailed them to ask them what is going on.
I havnt used the site for ages & it could be part possible I have just purchased a new computer not long ago
On my mother side, which I must get back to again all came fron Scotland
My mothers name was Heather Menzies ,How Scottish can you get that. Her grandfather was Robert Menzies who married Agnes Bruce (Canongate) supposed to be connected to ROBERT THE BRUCE..
I Really must get back them but it was the death of William which has been bugging me..
Well it is after 1 a.m. morning and I must get off to bed .May have a aleep in the morning -Sunday
Bitterly cold here in New Zealand
Thank you for interest
Kind regards
Dianne
