Can someone tell me why Carnwath 1841 census images are not available online at Scotlandspeople?

Hi Grace
According to Scotlands People there are 96 Smiths in Carnwath, so some 1841 data must be there.

Was it a particular name you were looking for? If you can post some details of what it was you were looking for then we might be able to help.

Best wishes
Lesley

Hi Grace,

I just happened to notice something while I was looking for graveyards listings for South Lanarkshire on genuki.

I noticed the name Carnwath while scrolling through the list and your post popped into my mind  , so I copied the details. If you can't find who you are looking for on the census, maybe family names could be on the burial records :?:

Here's what I copied...

Carnwath - Carnwath Cemetery, Forth Road
Carnwath - Old Carnwath Churchyard, Forth Road

1841 census CARNWATH

Thanks for your reply Mandy and Lesley,
Yes there are some Carnwath images available for 1841, unfortunately the ones I am looking for aren't.

John Somerville 65 Carnwath G.Data. 632/00-001/00-033 no image.
John Somerville 70 Carnwath. 632/00-001/00-023 ditto.
Archibald Somerville. 15 Carnwath. 632/00-001/00-021 ditto.
I have them on the 1851 Census but was hoping to find out where they were in 1841.

I also have Bryce's in Carnwath. Again there are some images available but not all.
Why would that be, maybe bad writing?

Hello Grace, I was having a look at the 1841 Census for Carnwath, but I cannot see John somerville age 70yrs, John Somerville age 65yrs, or Archibald Somerville age 15, nor can I see them in the 1851 Census. but on the other hand I can find other Somerville's in the 1841 Census for Carnwath, perhaps you can tell me where you got your information on their ages, then hopefully,I will be able to help.

Yours. Ron.

1841 census CARNWATH

Post by Grace Carrick » Thu Jul 20, 2006 11:06 pm

Thanks Emandy,
I have actually visited both graveyards, unfortunately like most people a great deal of my ancestors either have no stones or they have disappeared, especially in the oldest graveyard.

Thanks also Ron,

Well I do have the 1851 census for Carnwath which shows:
ARCHIBALD SOMERVILLE age 25 head. merchant. B. Carnwath.
MARTHA SOMERVILLE. 31 sister Homekeeper. B. ditto.
JOHN SOMERVILLE. 67 head. Proprietor of houses B. ditto.
CHRISTINA SOMERVILLE 45 wife B. Douglas?
AGNES SIMPSON. 7, B Douglas.

Christina (Simpson) was John Somerville's second wife and I haven't been able to find out who Agnes Simpson is yet.
When I fed in the above ages on Archibald Somerville's name only one came up correctly ie. with 15.
the only other John Somervilles that came up were the ages I have previously given, but as I can't download the image, I really don;t know if they are the right ones, or what relation to mine they are, however he may not have been in the district, there were an awful lot of Somerville's around then!! Any help appreciated that could take me that ten years back.
Grace.

Post by JackyHSF » Sat Jul 22, 2006 10:58 am

Hi Grace

Sorry, this is an oops  I'm afraid there are about 20 BRYCEs in Lanarkshire on the index rather than in Carnwath!
