I've Lost My Great-Grandfather!! .....

Post by Spider-Girl » Fri Sep 15, 2006 1:41 pm

Hello everyone. Help!

My great-grandfather Robert Lupton was born on the 18 July 1875 at Port Street in Annan, Dumfriesshire. I have him on the 1881 census in Annan, I have him on the 1891 census in Annan but he doesn't appear to be anywhere in Scotland on the 1901 census.

I have been on the ancestry.co.uk site and entered his details to see what I come up with and there are a few Robert Lupton entries, but none of them are listed as being born in Scotland.

Anybody got any ideas about where I could try next? I'd really like to find out where he was and what he was doing in 1901!

Thanks.

Hi spider-girl

Have you tried looking for him on the 1901 Census with wildcards or alternative spelling?

Best wishes

1901 is right in the middle of the Boer War, and he was the perfect age for service.

Also quite possible that he survived to 1956 or later so that his death is not on-line at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk .

Mystery kind of solved by a visit to my great-aunt. He was working in Wales at the turn of the century!
