Hi there rellie and welcome!
Your request is something that you can easily search for yourself through the pay per view Scotlands People website. There is an easy linking button at the top of this forum page that goes directly to it. I looked for you for a David Cooper born anywhere in the county of Midlothian and anywhere between the years of 1880 and 1890 and there was only one result. No way of knowing if he's yours though without more details from you. The year of birth is slightly off occuring in 1888 and the place of birth is Stobhill. This David has a mddle name of Henderson. Like I said he's the only one in the index so the odds are he is yours....but then again.....if you knew more about his parents or any siblings or who he married etc etc etc then we could perhaps help you confirm or deny this.
Best wishes
Jean

David COOPER
Hello Jean,
Thank you for your prompt reply. These are the facts about David COOPER - as much as I currently know: "He was born in Edinburgh about 1884, graduate of veterinary college in Glasow, married Mary Florence TEAR in Lincolnshire, UK in 1914." I do not know his middle name. I have her records and her family records. Right now he's my 'brick wall'. This information was given to me by a friend who would like to know his family tree.
Many thanks in advance,
Rellie in California

Hi Rellie
If the 1888 David is your man then the family are straightforward to find in the 1891 and 1901 census, with 7 siblings in the latter.
It's far from unusual for someone to report their place of birth as the nearest large town or city on the basis that folk in other countries are more likely to know that place name rather than the actual, smaller place.
I term this the "Auchenshuggle Effect", - a well known place a bit outside Glasgow, - "well known" due to its having been a tram terminus. Let's face it, - are you going to tell the census enumerator in England/N America/Australasia that your place of birth was Auchenshuggle or Glasgow
If it's not possible to connect to the Stobhill David, it will be worth making contact with the Glasgow Veterinary College, as there's a good chance that they will have some details of a graduate from this era.
In fact, it's Glasgow University Archive Services that you need to contact,- see http://www.nahste.ac.uk/cgi-bin/view_is ... view=basic
BTW, a touch on the curious side that, as someone from Midlothian he went to the Glasgow Vet College rather than "The Dick" in Edinburgh, - The Royal (Dick) Veterinary College.

Re: David Cooper
HI David and Jean,
Thank you both for your replies to my query for a David COOPER. I think I will send for his marriage certificate to see if it has his parents' names on it and where he was born. Will also contact friend who is interested in finding out his family tree in England and Scotland - perhaps he already has that information. Will keep you posted as to what I find. Again, many thanks.
