Hi Maggie,

Just missed your reply, but i seem to have written a different Enumeration Dist (3). However here's the details.
None of the family were born England - though father, mother, and 2 oldest children were born outside Dunbartonshire. The 3 youngest were born in Dunbartonshire.

Maryhill 1851

Post by Jack » Mon Apr 18, 2005 10:50 pm

Hi Maggie,

Seems the family were in Maryhill, Glasgow in 1851 - not Dunbartonshire, and looks like father William may have already died by then.

Hello Jack
thankyou for the information it is appreciated it has thrown up a few puzzles like who is Isabella :?: I haven't found an Isabella as being a daughter of William &Agnes I have got on IGI William ,Mary,Charles,& Margaret I couldn't find Agnes but I have a James born 1820 in Barony so i took him to be the eldest child( with the Parents marriage being in 1816 in East Kilbride)so James age 5 on the Maryhill 51 who could he be :? I have William's marriage in 1853 to a Jean Baxter Wylie and have followed the trail of that family.I suppose i need to get a copy of this census to see what relationships it shows up i see that Margaret has also disappeared from this census too.well Jack it's given me plenty to think about thanks once again regards maggie :)

Hi Maggie,

I think Isabella could be William's 1st wife - please see the 1st named child of William & Jane.
If you wish i'll get the 1851 census details as soon as i'm able to.

IGI "Parent seach"

Post by Jack » Wed Apr 20, 2005 1:37 pm

Hi Maggie,

The children of a couple can sometimes be found by doing a "Parent Search" in the IGI - this link is from TS Home Page.

http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ ... _form=true

Leave blank the First Name / Last Name,
In the Father / Last Name box at top right - type in father's forename & surname,
In the Mother / Last Name box - type in mother's forename (at least) - i sometimes leave the surname blank if there might be a few unusual spellings,
Select Event - Birth/Christening,
Select a Region,
The Year Range, Country, County (if you know them) can help narrow down the number of results.

Always keep a very open mind on how names are spelled - some can have many variations.

If you only want to search a particular Parish, then another useful link is to Hugh Wallis' Batch Numbers.
