Help with finding someone on 1901 census .....

Post by dmd1164 » Wed Nov 29, 2006 1:20 am

Hi all,

Have got back into the search after a break. But I'm not finding the gg grandparents on the 1901 census. I've paid to view scotlands people but I'm coming up blank - no matches.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate the help.

OK I'm looking for Arthur Moore and his family to Mary Conway.

Arthur was born in 1869 in Ireland and Married Mary Conway born 1871, in 20/01/1892. District of hamilton county of Lanark

Apparently they had several children.
They had a son J. C. Moore maybe John or James???? not sure what year he was born.

Daughter Agnes Meikle Moore born 1904 (obviously not on the 1901 census).

Arthur dies in 1949 aged 80 in Whitburn.

Any assistance would be very much appreciated.
Regards

Hi there

Based on the birthplace of wee Agnes in 1904 my money is on this one...

1901 MOORE ARTHUR M 20 LARKHALL /LANARK 638/01 003/01 011

And yes I realize he's much too young!! But I think it really might say 30 and the broad cross out strokes on the original made it too hard to tell. Take a look and see what you think.....

Best wishes
Jean

Hi Donna

The only Arthur Moore marrying in Hamilton in 1892 was not getting hitched to a Mary Conway even when tried with M*y C*nw*y.

Do you have them on the 1901 census ? Have you tried Muir/Moor/Mair as possible entries ?

Where did you find the info on parents names? If it was on death certificates treat the parent details with caution. Sons and daughters did not always get it right!

Have you looked at the solitary Arthur Moore who comes up on SP Marriages in Hamilton ? I had no credits to check it further for you.

Thank you Just Jean

It would appear that that just may be him - I've down loaded the other certificate too - for the other Arthur Moore - as this could possibly be his father. The age would be about right.

This truly is a wonderful site so many helpful people.

You're welcome as always Donna! I checked it out and wee Arthur aged 9 on the 1901 has a birth right where you'd expect to find it in Larkhall and the parents match up. Let's hope you find the whole family :D .....especially now that you've got an awful lot more children to hunt down than you did before :D !

Best wishes
Jean

Hello Russell,

I have a copy of the registration for Arthur and Mary's marriage. The marriage took place on 15/01/1892 not the 20th. Dopey me.

It would appear that Arthur was illiterate as he signed with a mark rather than a signature.

Again - many thanks this is a wonderful site.

It would appear that both records are a match to the family.

Woohoo....... :)
