1911 English Census Breaking News .....

Post by DavidWW » Wed Dec 13, 2006 3:04 pm

See http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/1911census/

GROS's response awaited, - but just how many folk will be willing to pay £45 :?: , and that's without clarification on whether that will return the information on the whole household, or just an individual :!:

You read it on TalkingScot first :!:

You must have to have burning questions to part with £45 for a census entry!

I just read something else about it here too: http://www.yourfamilytreemag.co.uk/page ... nsus_early

The press release says the National Archives are now fast tracking the release (excluding sensitive data) and hope for 2009.

Before anyone starts to get excited it's most unlikely that the same situation will apply in Scotland.

Unless someone is prepared to go to the lengths, and costs, that Guy Etchells was prepared top go to bring a test case.

I doubt the end result will offer a great deal more information than could be gained from other sources .

As I understand it the Freedom of Information Act down South didn't specifically mention and exclude census information, whereas the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act does specifically exclude "closed" censuses.

Not that that situation wouldn't preclude a similar test case in Scotland, just make it more difficult to argue.

I read that there was more sensitive information in this census and was wondering what the extra information is. Does anyone know?

Watch out on the GROS site next week (maybe SP as well?) for an announcement in relation to the 1911 census for Scotland.
