Hello
Can anyone tell me which area included Kirkintilloch in 1861 ?
I am trying to locate the exact location of Keir st, Kirkintilloch which is where my GG Grandparents where living in 1861.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Debbie,
Kirkintilloch was a registration district its own right in (the detached part of) Dunbartonshire, and can be found there on ScotlandsPeople on an 1861 census search. If they were definitely in the town (village?), then that is where to look. If they may have been outside of Kirkintilloch, be prepared to consider the neighbouring registration districts of Cadder (Lanarkshire) and Campsie (Stirlingshire).
An 1859 map of Kirkintilloch can bee found at
http://www.nls.uk/maps/townplans/kirkintilloch.html
I take it to be the street shown as Kerr Street.
Kerr Street, although short, is split across three of the maps shown there.
- the section with Kirkintilloch printed on it.
- the section above that
- the section to the right of the second section above
All the best,
AndrewP
