Thank you again for this but it's not who I'm looking for because Hamilton lived much longer like 1950s and I did find him in the 1901 census in the family home all 12 of them! But then - nothing!paddyscar wrote:Hi Bertiebuggle:
Welcome to TalkingScot!
Have you looked at ScotlandsPeople death registers?
There is a death of Hamilton Frew born 1873 +/- 2, died 1907. I didn't enter any place names.
Frances
I'll keep searching.
Kind Regards

Sarah Hi,SarahND wrote:Welcome to Talking Scot! Have you found him in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses? That would at least tell you something... or maybe that's where you got the information about his profession?
Regards,
Sarah
Thank you for replying and advice, yes I've found him in the 1901 census and family members have told me he was a stockbroker but then - nothing. I'll keep looking.
Thanks again
Kind Regards

One might imagine that there wouldn't be many by the name of "Hamilton Brown FREW", but the reality is that, if this was a family name that was being commemorated by the naming of a child, then it's far from unusual to find that more than one line of the family used the name for a child.
Most often there are readily identifiable links between branches of the same family.
This is something that can confuse researchers from the point of view of looking for the birth, marriage or death of an ancestor, where the name is assumed to be unique, only to find multiple possible records

Hi Gordon
As you know Scotlands People deaths only go up to 1956 online, so if he lived beyond that, it looks like you may need to go and search for him at New Register House in Edinburgh. Have you found any of the siblings still around after 1901?
Or, any chance they might have left the country? (They only need to go as far as England to temprorarily disappear!)
Best wishes
Lesley

Thank you David, Yes I'm following my tutor's advice and using that formula of names being used down through the family. As Hamilton was never married I have to assume there are no more Hamilton Browns after him.DavidWW wrote:One might imagine that there wouldn't be many by the name of "Hamilton Brown FREW", but the reality is that, if this was a family name that was being commemorated by the naming of a child, then it's far from unusual to find that more than one line of the family used the name for a child.
