Can you help decipher occupations, please .....

Post by Rach » Tue Mar 06, 2007 7:24 pm

I hope to upload the census page to the Gallery but haven't had any luck so far. However, I will keep trying! [-o<

If it appears I would like to find out what the occupation of Susan and Margaret Dalziel is?
Thanks for the help.
Rae

Hi Rae,

Susan and Agnes were tambourers. I assume you meant Agnes and not Margaret (age 1).

Tambouring was a form of embroidery.

All the best,

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for adding the URL and deciphering it for me too!
I should have guessed that that was what it was as I'm sure someone else had the same thing recently - and, yes, I should have written Agnes! It is a family who are causing me to go round in circles and once I get my thoughts sorted out I will probably be posting another plea!
Thanks again,
Rae

Tambouring was, apparently, a very skilled job. The examples on these two sites should give you an idea of what beautiful work these two ladies created.

Enjoy :D

Hi Mary,
Thanks for those sites. The research I am doing just now is for an elderly friend and it will be good to have some extra details to add.
Best wishes,
Rae
