Ok....here's what I did.
First I viewed the MC of Eleanor and Charles to see if her parents were listed as living or deceased at the time of her marriage. And good news!! Her mum was still living in 1874 but her dad was deceased at that time. So then I searched for a death for her mum using just these parameters:
You searched for: Surname: "Stewart"; Use Soundex: Off; Forename: "J**"; Other Surname: "Bain"; Sex: "Female"; Year From: 1874; Year To: 1934;
The year range I guesstimated at! The J* allowed for all alternate spellings of Janet (Jean,Jean,Jessie,Jannet you name it!) I took a hugh leap of faith for the Stewart and Bain being spelt just like that.
The list of results? Less than a page full so 1 credit buys you 9 choices...
1 1900 STEWART JANE BAIN F 78 ST CLEMENT DUNDEE CITY/ANGUS 282/03 0115 VIEW (5 CREDITS) ORDER
2 1931 STEWART JANE GODFREY AITKEN BAIN F 60 GEORGE SQUARE EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/05 0440 VIEW (5 CREDITS) ORDER

9 1932 STEWART MARGARET JOAN BAIN F 65 HAYMARKET EDINBURGH CITY/MIDLOTHIAN 685/01 0466 VIEW (5 CREDITS) ORDER
And studying over the list and noting locations and names I felt luck was pulling me to Dysart.....(what can I say? It was my first guess!!)
So after viewing the image and seeing that her son in law had been the informant I knew I had the right lady

and I also knew her husband had been an Iron Turner cause I couldn't really read the occupation on the MC in 1874.
Then it got easy...just as I said....logged onto Ancestry.com and ran a search in the 1861 census index and that Stewarte spelling leapt off the page at me.
Best wishes
Jean
