I'll never moan again

Post by PaulaD » Sun May 13, 2007 7:51 pm

I've just spent the last hour doing my bit indexing a couple of pages of the 1900 US census for family search
The enumerator must have had a couple [5 cups] and used a very blunt pencil. He crossed things out and wrote above or below in very tiny letters and I think I'm going cross-eyed :x
Having said that its quite fun - there is a lot more information on the pages than I'm used to.

Anyway I promise I will never moan about ancestrys funny words and spellings ever again

Paula
Searching for Barclay Aberdeenshire, Stewart Edinburgh, Brown Edinburgh & Uphall, Finlayson E Lothian, Fairley & Renton E & W Lothian for starters!

Can we hold you to that?Having been an enumerator for the Census I have every sympathy when reading the records.
If Ancestry et al have no local knowledge of what they are transcribing added to the bad handwriting etc then some of the howlers are not so unlikely.
