Here is an entry on the 1891 census for one of my family.

Jane MCKAY. Wife Mar. 57 Born .Lanarkshire Bridgeton
Angus MCKAY.Son. Unm.34.Steam engine fitte.r Born .Lanarkshire Carmyle.
Mary MCKAY.Daur.Unm.29. Powerloom weaver.Born Lanarkshire Shettleston.
Catherine MCKAY. Daur.Unm 26. .Powerloom weaver.Born Lanarkshire Shettleston.
Jean Anatol DUNN or GALDEMAN/GALDEMAR.Son.Adopted.Unm.7.Scholar.Born Lanarkshire Glasgow.

I am interested in the adopted child.I tried to find a birth record for him on Scotland's People but was unsuccessful.
Can anyone tell me how I can find out more about him?
I presume there was no formal adoption in Scotland at this time?
Any help will be gratefully received.
He is not with this family in 1901.
