Often licked but never beaten!

Post by scopeo » Tue Aug 07, 2007 6:34 am

Well.... that's how I'm trying to remain, positive.

David Ferguson was last recorded on the 1881 census Milton, Glasgow
with wife Mary and family.

Born in 1816 Dailly, Ayrshire, aged 65, retired colliery manager.
Downloaded DC for Mary, died 1891, widow of David as described.

However, I am unable, after squandering several credits to locate the death certificate for husband David. I tried leaving out the year of birth and also using * in surname. Between 1880 and 1891 returns only 2 David's of correct vintage, in all areas, but neither is mine.

Any suggestions welcome.

John

Hi John,

What was Mary's maiden surname? And what were David's parents' names?

All the best,

AndrewP

AndrewP

Wife's maiden name was Picken.
And David's parents were Robert Fergusson/Mary McLelland.

Cheers
John

He is there in 1882 in Milton age 66 but indexed as DANIEL. Certificate definitely looks like David so worth reporting to SP. Wife is Mary Picken, parents Robert Ferguson & Mary McLelland.

I had exactly the same problem with a David being indexed as Daniel so I usually search for Da* now just in case!

Many, many thanks Tom.

As they say, you live and you learn. I've done a fair bit of living and, obviously, I'm still learning.

Best regards
John

Hi John,

I've had the same problem with a David/Daniel rellie. Over the course of two marriages, births of two sons and death of one, death of each wife and his own death, some indexers have him as David, others as Daniel and, to be frank, the names on the certificates could be either. Just to confuse the issue, he named his two sons Daniel and David!

Not till I finally found his BC did I actually confirm that HE WAS a Daniel.

All's well that ends well.

Just received an email from GROS apologizing for the indexing error.
It will be rectified in due course and my credits have been refunded.

Considering that David Ferguson had risen from a coal miner to become a colliery manager, and then after retiring was a provisions merchandiser, he didnae deserve a change of forename.
And to die aged 66 he never had time to enjoy his endeavors.

Thanks to all who contributed. Especially, Tom.

John
