Hi Ellen

Don't knock the Scottish naming pattern. It has helped a lot of people to track down their long lost ancestors and sort out one brother's children from all the other brothers broods.

Having middle names is brilliant too. They may not have used them all the time but when they do it helps sort out which John Smith or Donald McDonald you are looking for.

Hi Ellen

You didn't upset me and I'm sorry if my attempt at humour went astray.
:D :D :D
Its just that my wife had three ancestors (brothers) who all used the same names for their children but because they followed the naming pattern we were able to sort out one line from the other without even a middle name being used.
It took ages and quite a few Credits on SP but we did it :!:

Its great when it works out for you.

Hope your next family search proves as successful.

Hello David & Ellen

Are you still active on this list? I am a descendant of William Semple Elstob and am happy to share what info I have.
