Mary Hanson born 29 March 1806

Post by JH Atkinson » Sat Dec 26, 2020 4:59 pm

I am trying to find a death record for Mary Hanson born 29 March 1806 Perth, Perthshire, Scotland.

She had a twin brother, Henry Hanson born 29 March 1806 Perth, Perthshire, Scotland

The family had 10 children and Mary is the only one with no death record. As a twin,
possibly she died fairly soon, I am wondering if there might be a local death record?

Her father was Lieutenant Henry Hanson 1776-1830. He served in the Army and
moved to South Africa

The family move to Java, East Indies.

Feb. 26 1830 Lieut. Henry HANSON, late Barrack Master of Cape Castle, aged 56 years.
This is from a notice in the Cape of Good Hope Gov. Gazette. They may have returned
to South Africa after several children were born in Java.

Is this the Birth you are referring too?
HANSON MARY HENRY HANSON/CATHARINE BLENCH F 16/04/1806 387/140 277 Perth
I can't find any other Hanson births, with a Henry as a parent, nor can I come up with a marriage for those parents.

Where did you find the information you have?

And what is the time frame for the other siblings births? presumably born in various places, as army families tend to be scattered abroad.

I am looking for a death record on behalf of a descendant who lives in Alaska.

This is what I have found so far; as you can see, only the twin Mary died
without a trace.

Henry senior was in the 5th Infantry of Foot and Irish brigade in the 1798-1808

His children:

Henry Hanson born 29 March 1806 Perth, Perthshire, Scotland (Wiki Hanson-8092)
died 10 Oct 1845 Java, Dutch East Indies

Married Catherine Blanche 31 Oct 1803 in Whitehaven, Cumbria, England (Wiki Blanche-217)

Mary Hanson born 29 March 1806 Perth, Perthshire, Scotland
"Death before Hanson Family travelled to Cape Town" ?

William Blanche Hanson born 1808 died 5 Jan 1815 Cape Town, S.A.

George Hanson born 8 May 1809 Brixton, Isle of Wight, England
died 15 June 1848 Cape Town, S.A.

Francis Maria Hanson 8 May 1813 Cape Town, S.A.
died 5 Nov 1814 Batavia, Java, Dutch East Indies

Mathilde Blanche Hanson born 6 Oct 1814 Cape Town, S.A.
died 10 Dec 1814 Western Cape, S.Afr.

Charles Ebhart Kent Hanson born in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa 19 Apr 1816
died 7 May 1898 Batavia, Java, Dutch East Indies

Frederick Drummond Hanson born 30 Nov 1817
no death record

Eliza Anne Hanson born 14 June 1820
died 23 Dec 1885 Wonoredjo, Java, Dutch East Indies

Lijdia Elisabeth Hanson born 17 June 1822 Cape Town, S.A.
died 10 March 1857 Brunswijk, Germany

Catherine Blanche died 16 May 1832 in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa

What is the source of Henry jnr's Birth details?
is it from his death record ? or a family bible or such like?

I simply can't find a record of a Henry Hanson born in Scotland in that time frame using the Old Parish records on Scotlands People or on Ancestry.

Ancestry gives this for Mary:
NAME: Mary Hanson
GENDER: Female
BIRTH DATE: 29 Mar 1806
BAPTISM DATE: 16 Apr 1806
BAPTISM PLACE: Perth, Perth, Scotland
FATHER: Henry Hanson
MOTHER: Catharine Blench
FHL FILM NUMBER: 1040159
I checked to see if perhaps Perth Parish only recorded female births in that year or something, but again I can find no trace of a young Henry Hanson.

Curious as to the source though it did cross my mind that Mary and Henry could be mistaken for the other in old handwritten documents [ORP & Ancestry do state female] was the 1845 death clearly marked as male?

Curiosity go the better of me and I looked at the OPR showing the baptism of Mary Hanson in Perth in 16 April 1806; born 29 March 1806. There is no record on that page or the next page for a Henry Hanson, so it is not that the baptism was recorded, but had escaped the indexes.

All the best,
