Missing birth and death record

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can offer an explanation to me for this as it seems baffling. Apologies if it's obvious or easily explained as I'm a newbie and just finding my feet.
My maternal grandmother was Ella Gloag Taylor and I found her marriage to Matthew James Wilson in 1925 via Scotland's People.
However, although it is an unusual combination of names there seems to be no record there of either her birth or death - can anyone help or tell me what I'm doing wrong??

Thanks so much! Knew there had had to be a solution!
However another mystery......re the death record....my grandmother (Isabella)'s mother's maiden name was Hoy! This is definitely the name on the marriage certificate and also confirmed on Scotland's People. My great grandfather was Robert Taylor and he married Jane Hoy in 1885.
Not sure how or where McLeish came from??

A mystery not easily solved anytime soon, too soon to download the certificate and the search rooms aren't open yet

Bear in mind that the information on the death certificate is only as good as the knowledge of the informant, depending on who registered the death the information can be slightly awry.
Remembering your Granny's maiden name would tax many!

Thanks very much - yes, may just be a lapse in whoever registered the death.
I have seen Hoy as Hay! Plus she was Jane but known as Jeanie!
Even more confusion on my father's mother's side..her maiden name was Helsdown and have seen that in various forms even in one family...Hellsdown, Helsdowne, Hilsdon, Elsdon to name but a few.
However I do know the corret maiden name for my maternal great grandmother so I shall leave it as an infuriating anomaly.

Again in the, not so distant, past many couldn't read/write for less spell and the registrar just wrote down what he heard - An English accent would probably drop the H in Helsdown.
My Irish accented long losts made me an expert in wildcard searching!

Thanks for the reply and yes, I had assumed that most people being illiterate in times gone by that names were recorded phoenetically.
Although Helsdown is a fairly unusual name the myriad variations makes it all VERY confusing!
However my father was English and all records are free to view so there are some compensations to be had!

The registrar could be a little cavalier with the entries as well. My great, great grandparents 1870 marriage is shown as a marriage between McInteer and McAloon. The bride and groom's fathers on the registration (two columns apart) are McEnteer and McIloon.
Pretty sloppy.
