The Social Life of Scotland

Hi All

I would like to recommend The Social Life of Scotland in the Eighteentth Century by Henry Grey Graham, first published in 1899.

I suppose that this book has its flaws, but what I like best about it, is that it gives a glimpse on how the ordinary people in Scotland lived in the 18th century. What they ate, how they dressed, their homes, etc. This is the only book that I know of that does that.

I wish that I could find another book like this one that cover the 19th century.

Great Idea!

Why didn't I think of that. I get asked the same thing by all my relatives. Now I know what to tell them.

Another good one might be gift Certs. for Amazon.com or maybe Alibris. They are a good source of out of print books. I don't care if they are second hand, as long as they are in good condition.

Good point and I've not heard about Alibris until now, so naturally being the nosey person that I am at times

Alibris is especially good for books from the UK.
I like to shop around and get the best price from all the available sources. It must be the scottish blood in me.
