Just a question. I have searched back to my ancestor William Patton (Paton) born 1804 in Auchtergaven Perthshire & died 1868 in Rattray Perth. I have his birth & death records which both say his parents were John Patton & Barbra Brown. However I cant find any record of the marriage of these two even though the birth OPR says "John Patton in Gibbestown & His wife Barbra Brown" - so they were married. My question is - is it most likely that this OPR is just missing (so I should give up) or could there be some interesting variants of the name Barbra Brown which I have not thought of? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Robert

Re: Can't find Paton-Brown Marriage
Hello Robert
Assuming they married in the C of S
Looking at the Auchtergaven film information from the IGI - while baptisms are available 1741-1854, marriages are listed as 1742-1773 and 1823-1854 - so your marriage, if in the same parish as the birth looks to be in the missing years
From the information on SP re Perth Parishes - the same result
http://www.scotlandspeoplehub.gov.uk/pd ... 3to398.pdf
330. AUCHTERGAVEN
Births 1741-1854, Marriages 1742-1773 and 1823-1854 and no burials at all.
To check any Parish/County for available OPR dates on SP start at this link
http://www.scotlandspeoplehub.gov.uk/re ... -oprs.html
I went looking for other children to see if it was possible they married elsewhere or an approx year, but didn't find any. Did I miss any?
Trish

Re: Can't find Paton-Brown Marriage
Thanks Trish. I am learning - I will check the availability in future from these links rather than just wondering why I can't find something! As for other children I have not been able to find any either - not sure what this means but it appears the Birth records are intact so there probably isn't any others. Interestingly, this area where these people were - Obney & Gibbeston etc - is sometimes in Methven & other times in Auchtergaven. I think there was a special Methven region for it which later was placed in Auctergaven.
Thanks
Robert
