Hi Y'all,
If Any Kind Soul has a few minutes to spare I'd really appreciate a wee bit of help.
Robert Pentland was born in 1792 in Liberton, Midlothian. Sometime around 1822 he married Helen Moffat. There are no extant records for the marriage or any of their 4 (at least), but probably 5, children: David 1826-ish, Peter abt 1828, John abt 1830 and Alexander abt 1833.
Robert died sometime between 1841 and 1851 and Helen Moffat some time between 1851 and (unfortunately) 1855.
Although many of the extended family were quite wealthy, Robert is listed as a Horse Dealer in the 1841 census and, on various other certificates as a Ploughman and Sprit Dealer. I feel sure that Helen would have applied for "Parish Relief".
If anyone could dig up any Poorhouse Records that would be great.
Through lateral searches I've positively identified Robert's parents and baptism but there are a few Helen Moffats born around the same time where she reports her birthplace birthplce to be. I need a wee bit more info if possible.
Cheers,
Andy

Don't know how soon I'll manage Andy but I'm getting a fair wee list going so I'll add Helen to it.
I agree there could be a fair chance that she applied but a lot of the early records are missing.
I'll certainly give it a shot.
Regards,
Annette
