Joseph JARDINE
I am trying to find the parents of Joseph JARDINE (think he may have been a weaver)
Joseph JARDINE was born 1767. He married a Janet KERR b. 1772 They married on the 16 November 1792 in Tundergarth.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Re: Joseph JARDINE
Hello fortyseven,
Let’s hope that he wasn’t born in Tundergarth, and there must be a fair chance that he was, because the earliest baptism and marriage records there are from 1791. http://www.scotlandspeoplehub.gov.uk/pd ... 2to854.pdf
Tundergarth seems to have been just about the worst, in that regard, of all the parishes in Dumfries.
Here’s hoping.
Alan
Later: I just noticed that the birth date is an IGI submission, just an estimate, although I guess they couldn’t be too far out.
Joseph Jardine
Birth: 1767, Dumfries, Scotland
Christening:
Death: 23 JUN 1849
Burial:
Record submitted after 1991 by a member of the LDS Church.
All the best,
Alan

Hello Alan,
Yes, I found out toady at the D&G FHS the earliest baptism and marriage records for Tundergarth are from 1791.
The birth date you found, appears to be the correct Joseph JARDINE. Joseph, wife and family went to Canada in 1824. He died 1849 NB, Canada.Their son Thomas Jardine b.1800 Tundergarth, didn't go.

Re: Joseph JARDINE
Have you viewed the marriage entry for him? that's after the records began, maybe [just maybe] there is more information there.

Yes, I have viewed his marriage entry. Just gave me the date 16 Nov 1792 and parish, Tundergarth.
Have even contacted Canada, but they don't have his death details for 23 Jan 1849. Looks like another brick wall to add to my search

Hello Alan,
Just received information from a lady on the Canada board. It's from A Dictionary of Scottish Emigrants to Canada.
It shows all the Jardine family but, says they were from Ecclefechan. Do you think Joseph Jardine may have been born there.
I have a copy of the County of Dumfries Map showing Overall Dates of Old Parochial Records.(got this from D&G FHS) can't see Ecclefechan, though.
Was just a thought.

Ecclefechan is just to the south of Lockerbie.
Looking at the parish map on NLS http://maps.nls.uk/os/view/?sid=74400766 sheet 10 Dumfries
Ecclefechan is in Hoddom Parish [orange], Tundergath Parish is the parish just to the north [yellow].
