Hi,
I have a question regarding OPR birth records in in the 1830/40's in Old/New Monklands.
I have found only 1 record for a marriage in 1831 for an ancestor on my hubby's side in New/Old Monklands
For William Rodger & Janet Johnston, but none for any of their children;
Jane/Janet Miller Rodger
William
John
James
Is it because they're not ch. of Scotland ? or maybe another denomination ?
I couldn't find a birth for William c.1798 in Bothwell, to William Rodger & Mary Rodger neè Rodger either,
so I'm at a loss as too what to do next.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Regards,
Daryl

Hello Daryl,
You can get a bit of an idea of the condition of the OPRs for those parishes from the FamilySearch Wikis. They all look pretty average.
Old Monkland

New Monkland
http://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/N ... ,_Scotland
Bothwell
http://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/B ... ,_Scotland
Not much help,
Alan

Re: OPR Records in Old/New Monklands 1830-40's
Greetings from NZ.
In my case I found that by spreading the search a little wider, into the neighbouring churches and parishes, I was able to pick up the spouses bans, tho' that was in the days of visits to Family History Centers, before the search engines of the internet.
In the greater environs of Glasgow, there were quite a large number of churches and parishes within say a ten mile radias.
As the bans announce the names of both parties, it is not essential to know both surnames.
All the best with your research.
Alan SHARP.
