Hi Frances,

Yes, some are in Latin. Those that I have from as early as 1851 are all in English then written in Latin from around the late 1890's to at least 1905. SP has the names both in Latin and English...all of mine are from the Coatbridge and Airdrie areas.

Regards,
Anne H

Thanks, Ina and Anne. It's great that they are indexed by both, as my Latin days are long behind me. Sister Evelyn Marie warned us that we'd never forget the declentions, and that has proven to be true, but I still wouldn't be able to read much of an original document :D

Ina, to find which years are missing from St Marys, try searching with 'Do*' both sexes, which covers all spellings of Docherty , a common name in the town.

Using this, I see no missing years between 1840-1902. ( I was disturbed at that point and gave up) Then try another common name for any year that has no Do* pre 1840.

I got hits for other names 1867, 1868 , 1879.

Hi Ina, I tried the pre 1840's records back to 1808 and there are entries of some description for every year, not all do*s though! Some years are a bit sparse, but there is no complete year missing. The first Baptism was on the 4th Nov 1808. An Isabel Tenny and her mothers name was Dogharty!

Hi Fisher,

Thanks for the information. I'll go have another try.

Wonder when the other Greenock parishes will become available.....or if they ever will

I was very pleased to find about twenty of mine but there's an awful lot missing from the same parishes as those I did find. I'm wondering if SP have only put some of them online or if the records are missing.

Hi Ina,
Over the years there's been an odd occasion when I feel S.P. has not given, for some reason or other the correct results. Whether there's been a gremlin in the works, my doing the searches too quickly or S.P. overload.

I hope you've tried the search for Bon*r again as I get 79 hits from 1850 to 1900 and 80 odds from 1850 to present day.

I don't know for sure but I would expect the results from 1900 to present day to be sparse as they may have to respect privacy laws. Just a guess.

Hi Fisher,

I got 87 matches for Bon*r using the years 1850-1906 and not one of them were mine. My Bonnar's used the naming pattern, so every family had a Francis and a Daniel. Of the 87 hits I got there were only 2 Daniels (not mine) and hard to believe but not one Francis.

I know that many of my Bonnar/Bon*rs were baptized and married at St Mary's. So who knows where those records are.........ahh well maybe someday I'll find them.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Ina,

I've tried all the wildcard tricks for my Bonners, but am getting nowhere.

Another post mentions what appears to be twice entered records. I wonder if uncompleted batches got taken away instead of completed ones.
