1851 census look up please

Hi Anne,

William had an 11 page will - Shaw William Clark 01/06/1865 jeweller in Glasgow, wife is Elizabeth Primrose or Shaw - info from SP.

Try googling Primrose Flour Merchants in Glasgow. You'll find some interesting blurb about them.

Hopefully they are Betty's family and she knows all about them.

Completely off topic but did you see in your google the existence in the early 1800s of R Primrose, the Treasurer of the Dumfries and Galloway Horticultural Society!!

Since we are on the subject of wills, Elizabeth's brother in 1891 and father in 1851 also had wills and inventories on SP. That is assuming that the correct Elizabeth is the one in 1841 who is definitely a member of the flour milling family. William Clark Shaw's will might just provide the confirmation that this is the correct Elizabeth though it is an unusual name and seems very likely to be the one. The fact that her mother is Christina makes it all the more likely.

WCS is the one I found in 1841 and his parents are James Shaw and Mary Clark.

Seems to me that Betty has a lot to go on there.

BTW The 1841 Elizabeth also had a brother Peter who died in 1882. He was married to an Amelia McFarlane.

This is getting ridiculous. I had an aunt whose name was that of the enquirer in this thread, have a little cousinette who is AMcF and have a friend by the name of one of the male leads in this story!

I was obviously destined to work on this query.

How on earth did you find them in Ancestry spelt like that?? You are all brilliant.

I am still trying to get my head around all the information you have all given me and have now bought some credits for Scotland's People.

It seems to be coming together.

Great stuff Betty, glad we could help.

I got my 1841 census info from http://www.freecen.org.uk/cgi/search.pl.

Although it doesn't cover all of Glasgow it's always worth a look.

Hi Annette

I have been working away to try and get a connection to the flour merchants but so far I have been unable to.

I Googled the flour mill and got information saying that John Ure Primrose was the son of William Primrose and Annie Ure.

On the 1841 census (if correct census) the parents I have for Elizabeth is Christina and William.

On IGI I found an Ebenezer, who was also on census, giving parents as William Primrose and Christina Brown.

If there is any help or advice you can give me to prove or otherwise a connection to the flour mill it would be much appreciated.
