As I have just now discovered how remiss I have been; sincerest apologies for not answering all respondants.
I am indeed related to the family in my original enquiry. Father John McCreadie [Snr] (b. 1806) of John [Jnr] (age 3 years) was brother to my great-great-great grandfather James McCreadie (b. 1811).
The son (also named John) of John [Jnr] died of wounds 10 July 1917 as Private John McCREADIE 6320, 15 Battalion, Australian Imperial Force and is buried Plot 4, Row F, Grave 1, Strand Military Cemetery, Ploegsteert Wood, Belgium.
It has taken me 10 years to reach this point - thanks mainly to TalkingScot members who have kindly assisted. Take a bow!
Regarding the confusion surrounding Isabella Welsh (I have one instance of her surname as "WELCH"). Her parents were Joseph WELSH (b. c 1789) and Mary CROSSAN (b. c 1793). Perhaps the children with the "WELSH" surname were issues of a partnership rather than marriage or perhaps illegitimate to the same father. Regardless, it's a path I do not wish to tread at this point in time.
