Oh yes a fav place for a wee day down the water& I loved Nardini's ice-cream.
In fact one of my abiding memories is off my late Aunt &Uncle & my Mum & I sitting on a wall eating an ice-cream from Nardini's.
There was a gale howling off the water & we were bundled up with huge grins on all our faces.
My Aunt was diabetic & shouldn't have been having any but she was so enjoying it.It was one of her last trips & one of my most cherished memories.

like you am a very heavy sleeper-I have had armed police in my bedroom searching under my bed in cupboards etc & I slept on!
The only thing that wakes me is a crying child or baby.

When my son was three months old, the house next door went on fire, and the firemen were banging on doors wanting everyone out in case the gas blew - slept right through it. Woke up to a crying baby. When I looked out the window, I couldn't think what those great big grey things (fire hoses) were doing strewn across our street. The neighbours couldn't believe it when I popped out the door.

That made me laugh

When I was expecting my daughter my Mum warned my hubby that he'd probably have to get up in the night as I'd not hear the baby! She was so wrong! At the first whimper I'd be wakened, but still NOT for any other non-baby noises

I think it's called a "Mother's ear" but then I have never raised a child of my own.
I think you know you have to keep an ear open & so you don't sleep as deeply.

The armed police were actually in my room so that was pretty scarey in the morning when they were all pulling my leg about the colour of my nightie! I thought they had binoculars that could see through walls.

OK!

No-one else seems to be willing to ask, so I will...

Joette,

Why were armed police searching your bedroom

I was nannying for a family with links to the Royals & some of the Queens grandchildren came to stay.
They were being protected by the Royal Protection Squad & also local Special Branch Officers. My bedroom was adjacent to theirs. In the night the smoke detector kept beeping(it was outside my room)
So thinking there may have been an intruder or a fire they checked out the rooms including mine.
 I never heard a thing.
Now they do wear their guns all the time-I can vouch for this-what can I say
I shared a bathroom with one of the Officers & it made my day to see him in his towel & gun across his shoulder.
