I also zeroed in on the one in Snizort, since it is the only Effie McKenzie I can see in 1891, father Charles, crofter, mother Mary Would she lie to that extent on her marriage certificate? I have certainly seen some others who would! This family has an Effie as well as a Euphemia, just to confuse

Believe it or not, the one transcribed by Ancestry as "Fernny" is actually Euphemia (probably Phemy/Femy?) She is Euphemia in 1881:

It looks like Euphemia and her sister Mary are both in Partick in 1901, which makes it look more hopeful:

The other Effie you found in 1901, born in Glasgow, is a shopkeeper assistant. In 1891 she is with her father Roderick McKenzie and her mother Mary in Glasgow St George. Roderick is a Railway Goods Porter... so scratch that one.

Thank you for that info and thank you to everyone that put input into my query .

I have tried to find Euphemia birth in 1877 i have had no look but cost me a lot i did in the end get Norman birth and parents are Charles and Mary Mcdonald. Well done Ann for that as well.

She is there is 1877 only she appears as Effy MacKenzie, just to confuse you!!

What I find a bit surprising is why she would lie about her age given that her husband was also born and grew up in Snizort and must therefore have a fair idea of how old she was. If they had any schooling they would have had to have some idea. I can't imagine that Snizort is a big place.

Thank you Ann why didnt i think of that one but saying that in the census they had another daughter called Effie so i stuck to Euphemia i have that cert now thank you. On the marriage cert her husband Paul gave his address in 1907 Liverpool England he was a merchant seamen, but like you said it cant be that big of place they might of went to school together.

I know it is of subject but does any one know when a child is illagite (sp) are they put in mothers name, as Paul Mclean has his parents Ann Beaton and Jonathan Mclean on the marriage cert but i think i have found him in the census with his mom Ann Beaton and it has ill son by his name and i cant find a birth for him did they register births in 1875.

Yours are a confusing bunch. Our friend Paul was born in 1880 and appears as Paul Bethune. The only reason I know that is that I found the birth of brother Donald who, although also illegitimate, is registered as McLean and both Ann and father Jonathan McLean signed the BC. On that certificate Ann is given as Ann Bethune so I looked for Paul as Paul Bethune and voila!

I guess that his address means that his ship was registered in Liverpool. I googled the name of the ship but the only one I found was launched in 1936 and belonged to the Ellerman Line in Liverpool. I wonder if it was the successor to the one you have there.

Thank you so much you are a star . I have got Paul's birth cert now thank you but no fathers name on it. So that makes me think Johnathan was not his father if he was i would of thought Ann would of put it on like Donald's birth.

I have googled the name on the marriage as Paul put Agna Liverpool looks like a name of a ship so i will do more digging tonight.

I think the ship was called the 'City of Agra'. There seems to have been a group of ships called the 'City of ??????'

Hello Zena,

Anne was right about it being the successor. According to this page the original Ellerman-Hall Line “City of Agra”, 4808 tons, was built 1903 and scrapped 1932. You’ll find it half way down the page.

I can’t find a picture of that version of the ship but as a small consolation prize here’s a picture of Mr. Robert Faulds who "got his first sea going appointment as 5th Engineer on the CITY OF AGRA for a trip to India in 1905".
