Hello All,
On SP http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/index.aspx Wills and Testaments there’s a couple of entries for James Penman, Miner, North Balgray, Maryhill, near Glasgow, d. 29/11/1881 at North Balgray, testate- one entry for Will, another for Inventory.
On SP there’s a death of a James Penman 1881 in Lanark at age 59.
The series of articles “Notes on Miners Houses” published in the Glasgow Herald in 1875 now available at http://scottishmining.co.uk/400.html includes a reference to Balgray Row.
Hope this helps,
Alan

Hi Sarah, Allan and Wilma,
Many thanks for the replies, I have printed them all off to ponder over this morning.
I have joined Scotlands People but will have to wait until next month to be able to pay to do the look-ups there suggested as I only allow my self so much per month for certs. and paid look-ups.
The informant on Janes death cert is the Coronor T.Hall. The copy of the inquest states (in part as it is too long) That she died as the result of a fall, her husband was way woking in Queensland. Two surviving children of the first marriage and two sons from the second marriage.
Ellis Edwin Kernot, said that she had been residing at his house for 4 or 5, weeks previous to the accident she had been unwell in Adelaide and had come to Broken Hill for a holiday and to recoup her health.
At the time of her marriage to my 1xG.grandfather, presuming that Janes first husband was a miner, they may have gone to Silverton from the "Copper Triangle" where there was also a lot of mining in those years as a great influx of miners went to Silverton when mining began there.
Allan, that is me on the yahoo Penman message board. Next time I go home to visit I will take time out for a longer visit to Silverton and Broken Hill, both are fascinating places to visit, will have to tell hubby to go play golf !!!!!
Cheers to All and many thanks for what you have all found for me.
