Hi Annette M,
Sorry about misdirecting my reply to your post I sent it to AnneH instead my only excuse is that apart from being ham fisted is that I'm new to this.

Hi Gordie
I just wanted you to know that I've been trying to find some sort of clue to your missing Annie. It seems like the timing is always just a little bit off....for example the 1901 census and you thinking her birth was in 1902. After two days of hard slogging and more than a few dead ends I'm still not sure this is worth typing but here goes....
I went looking for an Annie Stevenson hoping to find a connection with a likely James Millar that would explain the use of Stevenson as a middle name for his daughter. While not finding a mother named Annie Stevenson I did find a sister named Annie Stevenson Millar who was born 1872 in Blythswood. She had a brother born in 1874 in Govan named James Andrew Millar. Their parents were James Fleming Millar and Magdalen Stevenson who were married 4 Oct 1871 in Blythswood. Magadalen died a widow in 1901 in Gargunnock Stirlingshire age listed 55 and the informant was daughter Annie Stevenson Millar (signed just that way). Theoretically then both Magdalen and Annie should both appear on the 1901 census in Stirling as it was taken just a few months prior to her demise.....but nope.....nuthin
This Millar family in Blythswood/Govan seems to have evaporated from the 1881 census as there is no likely siting
There is a Magdalen Millar visiting a household but no sign of the two known children. There is a 2 year old Millar child also visiting born Edinburgh soooo...maybe this is correct and the family left Glasgow area for Edinburgh and then Magdalen ends up in Stirling by 1901. A search for Magdalen or hubbie or children in 1891 yet again is inconclusive (or too many records to view since we really don't know where they are hiding!!) So far all my attempts to find the above James Andrew Millar and link him to being the James Millar listed as father of your Annie and her sister Jemima have failed
I wonder if you have considered having the births of Annie and Jemima searched for at NRH? If they are found hiding just out of range of the 1904 online cut off then they would be well worth viewing as they should state marriage details for James Millar and Jemima Gordon. Of course shortly after the new year we will all have online access to one more year of records....so maybe in January more clues will surface.....
I used to think some of my surnames were tough to follow but I think Millar has to rate right up there
I really couldn't say if this is helpful or not but at least I did try.....
Best wishes
Jean

Hi Justjean,
Thanks for the info. the Annie Stevenson idea was good and I'll keep a copy of your post in case any of it connects further down the line.
I've just taken delivery of the 1881 census disks so I'll looking for some likely suspects.
All the best,
Gordie
