Hi Andy,

I was wondering because I couldn't see any sons who would have been old enough to be out working in 1855.

Don't know how many of the census records you've found but on the 1841 Census Alexander and Christina's next door neighbors are James and Janet Forguson (Ancestry's spelling) and Dugald and Catherine Ferguson with sons John 2 yrs. and James 3 mon.

Hi Carol

The nephew was Dugald Ferguson aged 16 son of John and Susan.

Margaret Ferguson the daughter married a John Brown in Glasgow 1864. They had a daughter Margaret born either side of 1864 and I can't seem to find her birth never mind in the 1871 census

Another thing - the other Ferguson's living side by side seem to be the parents and siblings.

Andy,

I think this is them in 1871:

Margt F Brown
Age: 33
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1838
Relationship: Wife
Spouse's name : John
Gender: Female
Where born: Strathallan, Argyllshire
Registration Number: 655
Registration district: Shotts
Civil parish: Shotts
County: Lanarkshire
Address: Fauld Head
ED: 9
Household schedule number: 147
Line: 16
Roll: CSSCT1871_151
Household Members: Name Age
John Brown 32
Margt F Brown 33

Looks like the child Margaret has probably died. I found Margaret and John on all the later census records and there were no children with them. Margaret's place of birth is spelled differently -- Strathlachlin, Strachlane, Strathallan and in 1891 given as Newton.

Maybe someone else can take a try at the birth certificate. I'm going to be out of the house for the rest of the day today.

hi Nelmit

Mrgaret's marr certificate - married in Partick 1881 but the parents names are different from her death certificate - place of birth in 1891 and 1901 given as Glasgow.

I just wondered about who she gave as her parents and what her address was when she married.

Annette

Andy,

If her parents are different on her marriage certificate and her death certificate, how do you know it's the same person?

What was Margaret's married name?

Margaret's ms was Brown according to the certificate - husband one John Carrick - address on marriage certificate was Partick - Grace Street I think. Parents given as John Brown dec and Jane Gillan
On her death certificate husband is mentioned and parents given as John Brown and Margaret Ferguson

I'm a bit baffled
