thanks for the link to the family history search.

it has proven useful but I cannot see the reference to Catherine Thomson. how did you find the extract? I did find the children though :D

I did it the long way around because there are so many John Campbells.

Search for:

Christian Fletcher
marriage
1833
Scotland

Only three came up. Click on the one in Kilfinan, Argyll. Click on John Campbell and the individual record for John Campbell, mother Catherine Thomson should come up.

ignore the last post I found it!

I haven't been able to find out anything else though, suspect records for the area not brilliant at that point. I did find an Ann Thomson and James Campbell from Inverness, parents of John who was born in 1816 but not Ann. :?

confusing myself with this, time for a break I think!

I have found the record, he was born in Glassaryin Argyll in 1805 father Alexander mother Catherine.

Nothing to be sorry for! We've all been there and done that!

The early records are confusing when you have to deal with changes in spelling, handwriting, gaps in the records, etc. Some of the best information I've found has been from gravestones.

(I was going to say that you just have to keep turning over stones, but that doesn't sound to good right here!)

Keep hunting and don't hesitate to ask questions. There are lots of interested and helpful people on this forum.
