Hi Jack

You asked me in August to remind you in two weeks time! :)

Hope the snow isn't stopping you getting to the Mitchel.

Hi Catriona,
So it's not just me that forgets....
But more likely you hadn't forgotten, and have been waiting very patiently for me to remember...!

If memory (!!!) serves me right i did look, but couldn't find it in the film.
So i'd taken a note to check the correct No when i got home - and er, well, forgot to do so

Sorry about this, but i will look again. Got it all written down into the present notebook.
Can't find the ones i used a few months ago, but they must be somewhere, what with me being such a awfy hoarder.
(i've some still missing from last year that has info promised to someone on TS many months ago...)
Jack
ps - no snow, all now turned to slush, but melting fast. :D

Hi Jack

Thanks for taking up my cause again. According to SP

Census 1871 No 626/B0 005/0B 003.

It's for Village of Dykehead, District od Calderhead, Civil Parish of Shotts.

It would be interesting to see the pages before and after. This page seems to indicate that there was a Pub every five houses!

Thanks for your help.

Hi Catriona,

Got it - eventually! I'd looked at 626 previously, but hadn't realised there was also a 626B....
The bottom line being - there were only 2 pubs in Dykehead; and both just happened to be on that one page.

Cheers! Jack

Thank you, Jack.

So did James Livingston and Thomas Watso, the publicans each build a pub and 5 houses to rent, so calling them Livingston's Houses and Watson's Houses?

James' will indicates that he left property.

Something more to think about

Hi Catriona,

Will check that out - ie, see how many homes were as Livingston's, and same for Watson's.

Glad i now know where to look! Jack

Hi Catriona,
It was as it was on the census page; only 1 - 5 Livingston's Houses.
The previous page was 1 - 4 Ferguson's Row.

Watson's Houses were also only 1 - 5.
Jack
ps. i think i now know why i couldn't find the right page. The film box had 626 Cadder written on it.... no mention Shotts. :?
I'm learning

"Dean of Guild" popped up in my mind, but a quick search here took me to the bad news at http://talkingscot.com/forum/viewtopic. ... dean+guild
