My husband doesn't quite understand either - but I sure do - the absolute delight of a few days ago when Currie was able to resolve my query on the Canadian branch of my family - has kept me enthralled ever since. I've had some winning snipes on ebay - but this is way way better. I adore my family past - I hear their stories - I unfold their mysteries - I cry for what they did/didn't achieve - I am amazed at their strength in the days when life was never easy - and I find their graves and sit and contemplate what we might tell each other.Anniespangles wrote:It is thrilling my Hubby just doesn't get it I am trying to explain it to him by comparing it to winning a last minute bid on ebay hehe, but thats still not doing it justice ,its a surprisingly deep feeling.Thankyou also for the poor law archives tip, there might just be something in there for me too!
You give much to Annie from the search, finding her is an added delight.

It's especially rewarding when you can give a voice to someone, like Annie, who didn't have much of a voice in life. I feel the same way about the many women in my family tree who died when their children were babies and so were never remembered by succeeding generations. Any information that can illuminate a bit of the person behind the bare bones of the b-m-d dates is very satisfying.
Best wishes,
Sarah

Oh yes that's one of the main reasons I do Family History I have a need to put flesh on their bones & breathe life into their photos & their stories. It also helps me to understand who I am & how I came to be who I am.
I agree so much with Sarah too to give voice to those who left no or little ripples behind them.

Re: Larbert Lunatic Asylum
I am hoping someone reads this and can help me. New to this website.
And a total beginner looking into family history.
I am looking for my great grandmothers burial place.
I have her death certificate and admission date into larbert lunatic asylum.
This has been a hidden family secret.
And I am determined to find out where she will be buried.
Her death was October 1930.
With her being a Roman catholic, would family have claimed her body back?.
Or will she be in an unmarked grave?,
Any help or advice would be wonderful.
I am at a total brick wall with this. Stirling archives have given me all the information they can.

Re: Larbert Lunatic Asylum
Hello Maria,
I imagine the best place to start looking for a burial would be at Falkirk Cemeteries Office in Dorrator Road, Camelon.
Larbert is part of Falkirk District and as you have an exact date of death as well as a 'probable' place of burial, finding her, providing she was buried in the district shouldn't be too difficult.
Unfortunately, they're not the quickest as responding to genealogical enquiries, so you'll have to be patient, see:
https://www.falkirk.gov.uk/places/cemet ... ematorium/
All the cemeteries are non-denominational, but some have specific R.C. Sections. Sections, part sections or individual lairs would be consecrated by a priest if it was the desire of the family that she was laid to rest in consecrated ground.

I wonder if anyone has been in a similar suitatin and managed to find out?.
Any help at all I am so greatful.
