Looking at possible census records (to match the family Annette found in 1871) - I found this one in 1861 - interesting perhaps because of the surname BARR
1861 Glasgow Inner High, Lanark
15 Duke Street
Robt Barr 29 head born Hamilton, Lanark Cork Cutter
Isabella S Barr wife 26
Marion Smith 14 visitor born Hamilton, Lanark

Other family members
1861 at 5-7 Miller Street
William Smith 53 head lacemaker
Margaret Smith wife 50
John Smith son 23 joiner journeyman
Agness Smith dau 20 scholar??
William Smith son 9 scholar

In 1851 the family of William Smith (lace maker) living at 5 Millar Street Hamilton
SMITH William Head M 43 Lace Manufacturer Lanarkshire - Hamilton
SMITH Margaret Wife M 41Lanarkshire - Hamilton
SMITH Margaret Dau U 20 Lace Purler Lanarkshire - Hamilton
SMITH Isabella Dau U 17 Lace Purler Lanarkshire - Hamilton
SMITH John Son 13 Scholar Lanarkshire - Hamilton
SMITH Agnes Dau 10 Scholar Lanarkshire - Hamilton
SMITH Marion Dau 5 Lanarkshire - Hamilton

From family search Robert Barr married Isabella Smith 28 Nov 1856 Hamilton, Lanark

Hi Hamilton 604

I believe these Bent Cemetery (Hamilton, Lanarkshire) burial records could well be those of your Smiths:

William Smith, age 82, date of burial 15 Nov 1889, 14 Miller Street, Hamilton
Margaret Smith, age 80, date of burial 5 March 1902, 20 Miller Street, Hamilton
Margaret Smith, age 1, date of burial 2 Nov 1867, Granddaughter of William Smith, Lace Man (sic)

I had a look at the death certificate for the child, which records the following:

Margaret Hamilton Smith, daughter of John Smith, Spirit Merchant, and Jeanie Smith, maiden surname Jackson, died on 31 October 1867 at Townhead Street, Hamilton. The cause of death was bronchitis. The informant was John Smith, father.

This certainly looks promising based on the census extracts found by Annette and Trish. You may glean further useful information from the death certificates of William and Margaret Smith, as well as the marriage certificate of John Smith and Jeanie Jackson.

Cheers,

Rodeo
