Hi oldhug
"Robert moodie and elizabeth hunter where married in the parish of scoonie county of fife 1788 this is what is says on the copy of the parish records"
-are any father's names given on this, or witness names? Or an occupation for Robert? Or a place where he lived in Scoonie parish? Does it state, for example, that they are both from the same parish? WIthout being given the full information that you have it is difficult for us to suggest where you might look.
Also, you say that "Robert Moodie 1740 - 1795 Born: Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland Died: Walls, Shetland, Scotland" - how do you know that the Robert who died in Shetland is the same Robert who was born in Fife? Do you have further information which proves this is the case? Again, if we only have a small part of the picture, it is difficult for us to suggest ways to move forward.
You may also have to consider that not all information is able to be found! You have managed to get quite far back in your research, and have reached a time when records were not always kept, have not always survived and certainly even if they have survived, do not always contain the information we are looking for! It is sometimes just luck of the draw as to where your ancestors lived and if the records were well kept in that area, and if those records have survived.
Best wishes
Lesley

Cuthbert WARDLAW (son of John and Elizabeth Beaton above), was called as a witness in the disputes over a lease by the DALGLEISHES of Dunnygask on July 5, 1589, when he gave his age at that time as “fifty or thereby”. Cuthbert married Katherine DALGLEISH who was most probably sister to Robert DALGLEISH of Dunnygask in whose will he is a small debtor. There was a good deal of intermarriages between the Dalgleishes and Wardlaw’s. Cuthbert and Katherine had 9 children, one daughter Isobel WARDLAW married James MUDIE. Robert Wardlaw son of Cuthbert of Balmule gave sasine to her (Isobel) of some lands or a tenement in the will of Grissell MELDRUM, spouse of John MELVILLE of Raith, dated Dec. 26, 1598. It is stated that she was owing money to Isabel Wardlaw relict of James MUDIE.
Katherine Dalgleish (wife of Cuthbert) died in 1621 and her death is recorded in the Dunfermline [Fife] Parish Register as follows: 18 Februrary 1621, Katherine Dalgleish wyff in Umqle Cuthbert Wardlaw in Balmule dptd. yis lyff, being honest woman and of ane greit aige.”
