Hi Scozzie,

There is a marriage recorded between a David Adam and an Elizabeth Gibson in 1823 in Paisley.

This looks like the 1841 census entry for them

86 New Sneddon Street, Paisley

David Adam 35 Ag Labourer born Renfrewshire
Elizabeth Adam 35 born Renfrewshire
Andrew Adam 12 born Renfrewshire
Margret Adam 10 born Renfrewshire
Robert Adam 2 born Renfrewshire
Elisabeth Adam 5 born Renfrewshire

Might be a possibility?

Hi Jack & Isobel, You've both been busy! Thankyou so much, I appreciate your help. [-o<

I'm starting to believe that Robert Adam's parents may have died when he was very young, and he only had a vague idea of their first names. Their names on his marriage entry and death entry are different - I think he and his son both guessed. I've found loads of Robert Adams who may be possibilities - I think I'll have to put Robert in the "Too Hard" basket for a while :? - unless someone has a Time Travel machine I can borrow?

Cheers,
Scozzie
